Dandelion News
Here we will share news big and small, real-life stories and current affairs.
Writer: Camilla Egeberg I remember well the day I thought that all the bad stuff was behind me and that the rest of my life was going to be nothing but skateboarding. I was sixteen years old, sitting in front of the mirror and crying with joy. I thought that my life was finally good and that all my problems were finally gone. I was convinced that this was black and white, and that once the situation around me was sorted, so was my life. It's therefore not an exaggeration to say that the punch in the face when I became depressed for seemingly no reason in my early twenties was extremely painful. I would also say the process was unnecessarily long and challenging precisely because I wasn't prepared or had any knowledge of how such things are connected. I quickly learned that the luggage I was carrying was not the kind you can leave at the airport and never see again. No, this luggage was the kind you see in horror movies where the object is possessed and appears no matter how much you try to escape from it. So I guess there's only one thing you can do - you can learn to live in harmony with your baggage... or at least in harmony. You can stop running from it or pushing it in front of you. You can open it, study its contents and think about what you can do with all these things to make your journey the best it can be. You might even get lucky and find some hidden treasures inside that could be valuable to you. My luggage, like everyone else's, is filled with a lot of strange things. The good thing is that after peering nervously and a little curiously into it, I've gained more knowledge about how it affects me. It's a well-known fact that you have to realize that you have challenges before you can start working on them. The baggage is there whether I want it to be or not and it will always affect me, precisely because it has helped shape me and is part of me. So there's not much point in running away from it, but rather opening it during the journey and taking a look at its contents.
