Dandelion News
Here we will share news big and small, real-life stories and current affairs.
As participants in the Reach for Change Norway incubator, we had the pleasure of starting 2017 with a bang in Denmark together with Reach for Change Denmark and their incubator participants. We spent three days in Dronningmølle with inspiring conversations, great food and an incredible view.

Once again, eleven months have flown by. December is well underway and soon we will be writing 2017. It's a time for reflection and contemplation. A lot happens in the course of a year. It's been an eventful year, both personally and professionally. I have gone from being a student to becoming a child welfare educator. With that began a new journey, where the big question has been: what am I going to work with? Fortunately, it didn't take long to figure it out. I was, of course, going to work with young people in child welfare. When you finally figure out what you want to work with, the question of where comes up.
Are you living in a child welfare institution or foster home and wondering what happens when you turn 18? You may have heard someone talking about aftercare, but don't really understand what it is or whether you need it? You're not alone, and we want to do something about it. Would you like to help us?
Through various projects, we have had the pleasure of meeting many young people with experience of child welfare services and asked them what they think about aftercare and what can be done to improve it. The most frequent response we received was that they would like better information about what aftercare is and what options are available. We thought: hmmm... why not do that? So we developed the Aftercare Workshop. At The workshop will provide a good introduction to the laws, rules, benefits and challenges associated with aftercare. The workshop leaders use examples from their own experiences of child welfare services and the transition to adulthood. We want to give young people a good basis for participating in the planning of the follow-up they need and want in the transition to adulthood. The workshop also provides an opportunity to meet and work together with other young people at the same point in their lives. We at Løvetannakademiet invite you to take part in testing the Aftercare Workshop and give us feedback on what you think is good, what is missing and if there is anything you think should be done better. Writer: Camilla Egeberg I remember well the day I thought that all the bad stuff was behind me and that the rest of my life was going to be nothing but skateboarding. I was sixteen years old, sitting in front of the mirror and crying with joy. I thought that my life was finally good and that all my problems were finally gone. I was convinced that this was black and white, and that once the situation around me was sorted, so was my life. It's therefore not an exaggeration to say that the punch in the face when I became depressed for seemingly no reason in my early twenties was extremely painful. I would also say the process was unnecessarily long and challenging precisely because I wasn't prepared or had any knowledge of how such things are connected. I quickly learned that the luggage I was carrying was not the kind you can leave at the airport and never see again. No, this luggage was the kind you see in horror movies where the object is possessed and appears no matter how much you try to escape from it. So I guess there's only one thing you can do - you can learn to live in harmony with your baggage... or at least in harmony. You can stop running from it or pushing it in front of you. You can open it, study its contents and think about what you can do with all these things to make your journey the best it can be. You might even get lucky and find some hidden treasures inside that could be valuable to you. My luggage, like everyone else's, is filled with a lot of strange things. The good thing is that after peering nervously and a little curiously into it, I've gained more knowledge about how it affects me. It's a well-known fact that you have to realize that you have challenges before you can start working on them. The baggage is there whether I want it to be or not and it will always affect me, precisely because it has helped shape me and is part of me. So there's not much point in running away from it, but rather opening it during the journey and taking a look at its contents.
